Group Update

The Sumner County Amateur Radio Association held its annual November Officer Elections on November 4th, 2010. The officers are as follows:

President - Rick Woodward KA4JXY
Vice President - Matt Brawner KJ4EVO
Secretary/Treasurer - Ron Brawner KJ4EVQ
Trustee - Richard Pryor WD4BKY

I'm glad to now be Vice President of the SCARA group. I plan to continue to support Sumner County SKYWARN and be mutually supportive to SCARA. I still have big plans for both groups and I now feel I can make these ideas become reality.

My goals for the Winter months remain. My goal is to increase membership in Sumner County SKYWARN and SCARA. A SKYWARN Group is only effective when it has great people to assist in gathering Severe Weather Data. My next objective is to formulate parterships with ALL Sumner County Public Safety Agencies. We have a strong partership with the Sumner County Emergency Management Agency which we hope to continue to foster. We're also partnering with the first ever "Weather Club" at Gallatin High School.

We're now formulating dates for our annual SKYWARN Storm Spotter Training class to be held next February.

SKYWARN Training; BIG NEWS!!

The SKYWARN Training class that was hosted by SCARA this past week in Gallatin was a huge success! In total we had 55 people attend, which is fantastic. Mike Davis, the Information Technology Officer at the WFO in Old Hickory was a great speaker and kept the crowd's attention through the duration of the class, which started at 6:35 and let out at 9:10 pm. Thanks to Ken Weidner, Sumner County Emergency Management Director for the acquisition of the Administration Building for the class.

BIG NEWS FOR SUMNER SKYWARN!!
Due to a recent ARRL (Amateur Radio Relay League)rezoning of the ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Services) districts in Middle Tennessee, the former "Robertson-Sumner SKYWARN & ARES Group" is now just the "Robertson County SKYWARN & ARES Group" leaving Sumner County SKYWARN and SCARA as the sole SKYWARN Group in Sumner County. We will be working close with Sumner County EMA and other public safety offices to create the best SKYWARN Group that we can.

We will keep you up to date!!

SCARA Updates

The SCARA Website is going to be under renovation for the next couple of weeks. We are trying to make it more functional for today's cyber world. We are collaborating on a design for the new page and we think you will like the finished product.

We had a good meeting this past week. We are still waiting for the National Weather Service to give us the go-ahead for a SKYWARN Spotter Class, hopefully in March.

We will be holding a SKYWARN Net this Tuesday, February 9 at 7:30 pm.
